When an application from Darien crossed my desk, I knew what I was looking at. Darien is a strong public school. It’s well-resourced and produces a concentrated group of high-achieving applicants every cycle.

Darien students are grouped together. They’re ranked by GPA, cross-checked with course rigor, and compared to prior years.

Example: If you have a 3.75 weighted GPA and took 3 APs by junior year, that might be impressive at another public school. At Darien, you’re probably middle-of-the-pack.

Benchmarking

AOs also compare your application with historical application data. They ask: Is this applicant as strong as the top students from Darien last year?

Rigor Check
